IoscoTownship

Iosco is the Chippewa name for the stream that is now known as the Cedar River. In surveying terms the township is known as township 2 north, range 3 east. Iosco Township is on the western border of Livingston County and south of center. To the north is Handy Township, east Marion Township, south Unadilla Township and west White Oak Township, Ingham County. The surface is slightly rolling, heavy with swamps and timber. The task of subduing and making farms on the lands of this township was tedious and prolonged. The first land entered in the township was by Alonzo Platt of Washtenaw County in section 12 on August 12, 1835. Elbert Parker entered land in section 8 on October 29, 1835. This land became known as Parker's Corner. It was here that the post office, school, merchantile store, the Methodist Episcopal Church, and about six dwellings were located.
