Genoa Township

Genoa township was organized on March 11, 1837 from north half of Putnam Township. The township is bounded on the west by Marion township, on the north by Oceola, on the east by Brighton, and on the south by Hamburg. The northwest corner of Genoa is the center of Livingston County. The first land entries were made by Almon Maltby and John White in May and June of 1835. It was another two years before anyone actually settled in the township. The first dwelling is credited to Thomas Pinckney. His log house was constructed in the summer of 1835.
